Kohala Food Hub

Maya Parish has worked with Hawaii Institute of Pacific Agriculture (HIP Ag) for many years. She produced their annual fundraiser ‘Āina Fest from 2017-2019, and in 2020-2021, Parish produced and directed ‘Āina Lessons, HIP Ag’s 16-episode educational series about regenerative farming techniques and healthy locavore cooking. In addition to directing Kohala Food Hub, she is co-creating and co-organizing HIP Ag’s “Seed To Market Initiative”, a series of community educational workshops and planting activities to build local food sovereignty.

Maya is also the Owner/Operator of Maya Parish Yoga and works part time as Operations Manager at Escape Hatch LLC. Serving her community and increasing environmental, community, and individual health and wellness is central to Parish’s career and purpose. She has worked extensively as a volunteer community organizer, organizing large scale community events on island, including the Kohala Country Fair, the Kona Women’s March, the People’s Climate March, and Democratic Party of Hawai‘i County and State Conventions, and has served as an Elected Representative on both the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i’s County and State Leadership Committees. She currently sits on North Kohala’s CDP Advisory Group and Agricultural committee.

Previous employment includes Programs Manager at Kohala Institute at ‘Iole, Teaching Artist with the 501(c)(3) The Unusual Suspects, Communications Facilitator with Kaiser Permanente, and youth yoga teacher at Kohala Elementary School.
