Cultivating a Tradition of Agriculture
The HIP Agriculture farm and non-profit headquarters are located in the historical Niuli’i Ahupua’a. Steeped in rich agricultural history, we are honored to be stewards of the land here today. Our organic farm, fruit orchards and ecological learning center sit on 26 acres of fertile land, surrounded by the green hills and year-round streams of Kohala.

Regenerative Farming Practices
HIP Agriculture practices a variety of farming methods, including market gardening, agroforestry systems, tropical permaculture techniques and more. Our farm serves as an experiential education site and model for regenerative agricultural systems. Our goal is to inspire and grow the next generation of farmers.

We produce a variety of rotating, seasonal vegetables in our gardens. Several acres of the farm are dedicated to lush, dense polyculture food forests, as well as a citrus, coconut, avocado orchard. The HIP Agriculture campus at Starseed Ranch is also home to flocks of ducks, chickens and beehives.

Restoring Food Sovereignty
A significant portion of the farm is dedicated to cultivating and growing local tropical staple crops such as kalo (taro), ‘ulu (breadfruit), cassava, plantains, and cocoyams. The market gardens grow a wide range of vegetables including lettuce, dark leafy greens, root vegetables like carrots, beets, and radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other specialty vegetables. We’re on a mission to restore food sovereignty to the islands of Hawai’i. We feel that increasing access and sharing plant starts of these food security crops are crucial parts of the solution.
